News Updates & Celebrations

Life Course Interview Update

We have now completed almost 100 Life Course interviews! The initial analysis of this data is well underway, and we are currently planning co-analysis workshops for later this year and early 2025. 

Place Study Update

We have now sent out more than 30 tablets to Place Study participants across Scotland, England and Wales with more in the process of being set up. 

Two of our co-researchers (Hannah and Shaun) helped Jacqui and Jo record some videos to help participants with LD to navigate the survey on their tablets, the link to this will be sent out in due course.

We are also holding our very first Place Study Analysis workshop this week, where we will begin to put data together to create individual Story Maps. 

Organisational Interviews Update

We have now completed more than 20 organisational interviews with people who work in all kinds of organisations, including churches, the police, shops, cafes and places of education.

We are recruiting people from four types of organisations: Those who are particularly focused on people with learning disabilities, those who are focused on people who are LGBT+, those who work with older people and more general organisations in our communities. 

Funding Success

Congratulations to Richard who has been awarded funding from the ESRC Impact Accelerator Account for a piece of work titled: Co-producing three workshops to evaluate the effectiveness of creating age-friendly intergenerational toolboxes, with the aim of developing confidence among trainee health and educational professionals to engage in intergenerational conversations with LGBTQ+ people.   

Outreach

Consultation for "A Fairer Scotland for Older People: Framework for Action"

Laura attended a consultation of experts for the Scottish Government’s key policy framework for older people, called ‘A Fairer Scotland for Older People: Framework for Action.’ The aim of the consultation was to help rewrite the framework using expert insight into the current issues facing older people. Laura provided perspectives from IncludeAge around the challenges faced by mid-older age people with learning disabilities and/or who are LGBT+, and advocated for their representation in the framework. 

International Day of Older People in Leeds

Jacqui attended the International Day of Older People event at Headingly Stadium in Leeds on the 1st of October. While there she met Matt Jameson (from Married at 1st sight), as well as many people from a whole host of community organisations including: Holbeck Together; Aspire; Hamara, and Leep1.

Social Network Research Webinar

On Friday 1st November Simon Fraser University hosted our very own Fiona Dobbie in presenting a webinar, titled "Social Network Research, Egonets and Qualitative Research: Methodology Guidance and Critical Reflection in the Case of IncludeAge". The webinar was part of SFU’s online Gerontology Lecture series. 

We will circulate the recorded session in the next newsletter if it is available.

Symposium and Workshop at Midlands Graduate School

On November 7th Richard will be participating in a symposium and workshop at the Midlands Graduate school on the issue of engaged research across the research life-cycle, and engaging experts by experience at different points in the research process.
