The IncludeAge Project – Overview, Aims, Objectives and Rationale

The IncludeAge project wants to look at how older people are included.
These are older people with Learning Disabilities or those who are LGBT+.

The information that the project finds can be used to include older people better in their communities.

Being included is a human right and is important for a meaningful life.

The experiences of older people with Learning Disabilities and those who are LGBT+ are not well known.

The project wants to learn about their experiences so they can be included.

IncludeAge wants to:

• understand experiences of older people in the past and today.
• learn how to make inclusive spaces with and for them.
• shape policies that support the inclusion of older people who have Learning Disabilities and those who are LGBT+.

The tasks of the project are:

• use different ways to understand people’s experiences.
• hold workshops and interviews.
• use the information for ideas on making inclusive communities.
• share what they learn with others.

Making a Difference

IncludeAge wants to make a difference to how people are included in their communities.

This means:

• finding new ways to get information about people’s experiences.
• understanding how inclusion works.
• encouraging conversations about what older people want and need.
• raising awareness of the experiences of older people with Learning Disabilities and people who are LGBT+.
• encourage the public to think about including older people with Learning Disabilities and those who are LGBT+.
• shape policies that support inclusion.
• provide opportunities for all of us to grow and learn.

IncludeAge Community Advisory Groups

IncludeAge has two Community Advisory Groups (CAGs).
They are made up of stakeholders and people with lived experience.

The Discovery Group focuses on Learning Disabilities.
The Gold Group focuses on people who are LGBT+.

These groups help guide our research.
They help us focus on the right areas and represent the right groups.

IncludeAge International Reference Group

The IncludeAge International Reference Group has professionals from around the world.
They give us things to think about when making plans.

They also help with workshops and give presentations at events.

IncludeAge Funder

IncludeAge would like to thank the Economic and Social Research Council for funding us.
This project would not be possible without their funding.
