IncludeAge Home Easy Read

Introduction to IncludeAge.

Many older people are excluded from communities they live in.

The World Health Organisation has noticed the loneliness older people face.
They have a programme called Age Friendly Cities and Communities.

People with Learning Disabilities and people who are LGBT+ have been treated badly throughout history.

Many people were excluded from their communities.
Some were jailed or put in hospitals.

These bad experiences have affected older people with Learning Disabilities and people who are LGBT+.
They still feel the effects today.

Sometimes older people with Learning Disabilities and people who are LGBT+ do not feel included in their communities.
Using technology can also be a struggle for them.

Not a lot of research has been done about these two groups.
This means we do not know the best ways to include people.

IncludeAge wants to fix this.
It wants to help communities to include people better.

Project Overview.

All older people are not the same. They are all different.
Everyone should be included in our communities.

The IncludeAge Project wants to help older people be more included.
They are focusing on older people with Learning Disabilities or those who are LGBT+ or both.

IncludeAge wants to learn about people’s experiences in community places and online spaces.
IncludeAge will use the information they get to help make communities more inclusive.

There are different ways to get this information like:
• talking with people about their experiences.
• using a questionnaire.
• interviews with organisations about including people with Learning Disabilities and people who are LGBT+.
• workshops with people to find solutions.

Project Timeline.

The IncludeAge Project began at Dundee University on October 25th 2022.

The project was set up in 2023.
They formed advisory groups with people with Learning Disabilities and with people who are LGBT+.

The project trained some people to be co-researchers.
They started interviewing other people about their experiences.
They also began The Place Study.

The project researchers want to continue interviewing people all through 2024 and 2025.

Then all the people in the IncludeAge project want to have workshops together.
In 2025 IncludeAge will share what they have found with everybody.

The project will end in January 2026.
Then there will be a final report.

There is also a video for the project.
